Do You Need a Passport to Enter Puerto Rico?

If you are a US citizen, you will not be required to present a passport in order to enter into or leave Puerto Rico. As a Commonwealth of the United States, it’s possible for US citizens to freely come and go from Puerto Rico whenever they choose. It’s always nice to pack light when traveling, and not having to bring your passport is just one more thing you don’t have to worry about forgetting.
There are many other US Commonwealth nations that fall under the same rules and regulations. In the US Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John also don’t require a United States passport from US citizens.
Are Noncitizens of the US Required to Provide a Passport to Enter Puerto Rico?
If you live in the United States or are visiting but aren’t an actual citizen, you will be required to bring your passport if you want to visit the country of Puerto Rico and pay them a visit.
The same rules hold true for other United States Commonwealths as well. You’ll never be able to get into Bermuda, the US Virgin Islands, Dominica, or Jamaica without a valid passport unless you are a US citizen.

What Else Do I Need to Know about Puerto Rico?
For starters, you can use US currency in this country. Changing your currency is not a requirement.
United States cell phone service works fine in Puerto Rico as well. So that’s also not going to be a problem for you.
