Hobbies

Anything that is considered a hobby will go in this section.  I’m going to leave out “hobbies” like golf and tennis because I view those more as sports and they will be in the sports reviews section.  Sure, we all have things we like to do professionally like work and even work out, but this section here is strictly to discuss things we do as men in our free time.

Hobbies for Men

Back in the day, when men had a chance to experience leisure time – and these leisurely days were few and far between – they never considered vegging out in front of the TV or walking around the mall with their friends. This special time was set aside to pursue interests, passions, and hobbies that were incredibly important to men as they helped strengthen their lives.

Hobbies for men are great because they provide a wide range of benefits including: reasons to meet up with friends, learning valuable skills, keeping your mind in tiptop shape, learning to pay attention to details, and creating additional joy in a man’s life.

If you hope to become a more well-rounded individual, participating in hobbies and interests will help make this a reality in your life.

With that said, let’s take a load off and look over some of the most refreshing, relaxing, and stress relieving hobbies for men right now.

Learning to Play the Guitar

One of the most fun hobbies for men and a worthwhile pursuit in itself is learning how to play the guitar. This is a skill that you can learn that requires precision, practice, and the willingness to put in the time, energy, an effort to excel at this skill.

On a more personal note, there are plenty of guys that end up playing the guitar for a living. Whether you end up making it big and playing with a famous rock ‘n roll band, or you have success at the local level, it’s still a fun hobby that could potentially turn into a lucrative way to make money.

On the other side of the coin, you may decide to play the guitar because it really impresses girls! Learning to play and mastering this skill is a great way to astonish the ladies. You can serenade them with your instrument and if she likes the way you play enough, you might even get to take her home at the end of the night!

Reading Books

For some of you reading this, reading books might not seem like the manliest hobby that you can get into. But it is certainly a hobby that could make your life a whole lot better.

An example of an avid reader is Theodore Roosevelt. Many other great men throughout history also enjoyed to read voraciously.

Why is reading such an important hobby? Well, it gives men the ability to connect with some of the most prominent thinkers throughout history on a personal level. By reading their words, you are literally getting a glimpse into their thoughts and by learning from great men and women from history; you are providing yourself with much-needed exposure to intelligent ideas.

If you’ve ever had any desire to become a more well-rounded man, reading is the hobby that you should pick up to make it possible. Even more important, it doesn’t even have to become an expensive hobby if money is an issue. All you need is to get your hands on a library card. If you have one, it literally opens up whole new worlds to you in the form of fantastic literature, biographies, how to books, and so much more.

Woodworking

Woodworking is one of the more admirable male oriented hobbies that we will mention today. And the reason it’s admirable is because it’s really hard to take a plain piece of wood and turn it into something beautiful, useful, and practical, and yet that’s what men who have mastered woodworking do on a regular basis.

As an example, let’s say a master woodworker wanted to get his wife the perfect gift for Christmas this year. Well, he could go to the store and buy her a mass-produced product that she would certainly like and appreciate. But on the other hand, he can create something amazing for his wife that he would make with his own two hands.

Are you thinking about taking up woodworking as a new hobby? If you do, please know that this is a useful skill to learn and many hobbyists say that it’s a great way to increase the level of patience that you experience. And it’s also an awesome way to lower the levels of stress that you feel during the day.

By chiseling a piece of wood, you have the opportunity to enter into a state of Zen. This might not seem possible, but it’s the truth. And it’s the reason why so many men appreciate this hobby and can’t wait till they have more available leisure time to get back to it.

If it seems impossible to get into woodworking because you know nothing about it, it’s always good to take wood shop classes. Many of the stores that sell woodcraft products also offer classes that will teach you the basics about woodworking. And the great thing is that these classes are often relatively inexpensive. You can pay as little as $50 per lesson.

Restoring Classical Cars

Classical car restoration is practically a long-lost start at this point. Back in the day, men would hang around the local garage for hours at a time and tinker with their muscle cars. While things certainly aren’t the same as they used to be back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, that doesn’t mean that this isn’t still a viable hobby and a fun and exciting thing to do.

Long gone are the days when your average man would spend the afternoon under the hood. The days of the typical grease monkey seem to be behind us. Yet there is still a small population of men that love this type of home mechanical work and look forward to it as often as possible.

That’s where restoring classical cars comes into the picture. The cars made today are mostly computerized and very sophisticated. Believe it or not, working on the newer cars just isn’t the same as working on a classical automobile.

There are many wonderful upsides to working on classic cars. When you take on this hobby, you’ll be able to learn problem-solving skills and become much better at them, learn engineering and mechanics, and also experience success after you rebuild a car from scratch, turn it over and here it roaring to life!

Another great thing about restoring classic cars is that it’s also a potentially lucrative hobby as well. If you ever got bored with your hobby and no longer wanted to own your cars, you will have the chance to turn around and sell them for a tidy profit. So that’s certainly another reason to get into classic car restoration sooner rather than later. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a hobby that could also put a nice chunk of change in your pocket at the end of the day.

Becoming a Barbecuing Aficionado

Everybody loves to eat barbecue! And men certainly love to get their barbecue on over the weekends during the summer.

This hobby is truly amazing because there are many ways to make the perfect barbecue. You could cook your meat in a smoker, or only grill on charcoal. No matter what way you happen to love barbecuing, you’ll be sure to satisfy all of the hungry stomachs in attendance at your next backyard family function.

The great thing about becoming a barbecue aficionado is that there really isn’t a high barrier to entry in order to get involved in this hobby. In fact, the only requirements are cuts of meat and a grill. Sure, you’ll want to get a top-of-the-line grill as you become more interested in your hobby. But just starting out, any grill will suffice.

As you become more interested in this hobby, you are going to learn to experiment more with different meat, cooking methods, veggies, spice blends, and you’re even going to want to create gourmet meals for family and friends.

There are many wonderful videos to check out on YouTube that are all about barbecuing. You can easily watch some of these videos to get ideas on where to begin. Or you can just wing it and start grilling yourself and see where this hobby takes you. The sky is truly the limit and barbecuing is definitely a fantastic hobby for the manliest of men.

Marksmanship

This hobby is certainly not for the faint of heart, but it is certainly one of the manliest hobbies that you could potentially participate in today. Becoming an expert marksman is never going to be an easy thing to accomplish. It is going to be a great challenge, and that’s the reason why so many men gravitate toward marksmanship.

To become a master marksman, you have to be willing to go the extra mile to master this skill. You have to have a steady hand, intense concentration, and the ability to keep your cool under pressure.

The great thing about becoming a marksman is that there are lots of shooting clubs all across the United States of America. These clubs are for all different types of gun sports, and you can literally get involved whether you are already a master or a novice beginner.

You’ll have to determine the type of shooting that you want to do when you decide to become a master marksman. You can learn to master the handgun, the rifle, or you can even participate in clay pigeon shooting.

Just to bring it to your attention, please note that there is a lot involved with this hobby and it can often become very expensive. But if you have the disposable income and the desire to do so, marksmanship training is definitely a fantastic hobby that can ultimately pay dividends over the long run.

At the end of the day, when you master marksmanship you will be able to defend yourself and your family. And that’s an important skill to have during these tumultuous times. So consider marksmanship as one of the best hobbies for men and something that you’d really enjoy during your downtime.

Weightlifting

Bodybuilding a.k.a. weightlifting is an excellent hobby for men. Not only will you have the opportunity to get your body in the best shape possible, you’ll also be able to calm down your mind, get exercise for health, and feel a lot better than you do when you’re just lying around on the couch all day.

So many men gravitate toward weightlifting because they ultimately need to get into shape and working out with weights is one way to make this happen. I have to admit that it’s often hard to keep yourself motivated when you have to hit the way to go to the gym, but it’s definitely worth it over the long run.

The more you work out, the stronger you’re going to become, and the bigger muscles you’ll have. This is a great way to impress members of the opposite sex – or the same-sex if that’s what you’re into – and it’s an excellent way to build your confidence over the long term.

Before long, you might even start entering into bodybuilding competitions. You might become the strongest man alive. You’re never going to know unless you give weightlifting a try, so get cracking and start on this hobby today because it’s truly one for the ages.

Hunting

Certain men would find hunting reprehensible. They don’t understand what it would feel like to provide food that you’ve killed yourself for your family.

On the other hand, there are plenty of men throughout human history that spend lots of time tracking in killing animals. Some do it for sport. Others do it because they are on the hunt. And still others do it to provide sustenance for their friends, family, and loved ones.

No matter what reason you might have the pick up this hobby, please know that it’s a great way to connect with nature and get back in touch with the manlier, primal side that lays dormant in the average man today.

Conclusion

I’ve listed some of the most popular hobbies for men and shared a brief description of them with you today. If any of these seems interesting to you, do not hesitate to try one or all the next time you have some time to kill and nothing better to do.  I’ll be very honest about my hobbies.  I smoke cigars, drink fine tequila, (which goes great with the powerful Antano 1970 smoke)  golf, and travel!
