I love the color of a pomegranate martini and my female guests never cease to be impressed by it.
Pomegranates have become generally more trendy in the last few years and they have a certain elegance around them.
I admit to buying my fresh pomegranate seeds ready prepared, I can’t be bothered with the hassle of extracting the seeds myself!
How To Make a Pomegranate Martini
There are quite a few different recipes available, none of which include vermouth. The drink is served in a Martini glass and with the basic ingredients of vodka and pomegranate juice/seeds, there are different additions like Cointreau, egg white or champagne.
Here’s Oprah’s take on a Pomegranate Martini:
What You’ll Need
- 1 1⁄2 cups pomegranate juice
- 2 oz absolute citrus-infused vodka
- 1 oz Cointreau liqueur
- 1 cup ice
- sparkling water, splash (optional)
- lemon, a squeeze (optional)
How You Make It
That’s easy! Pomegranate Martinis can be a great festive drink and people often make them for Christmas Eve.

I’m not particularly impressed with the presentation of this cocktail, but I’ve tried the way the ingredients go together and this is definitely a favorite with us.
How Do You Make Sweet & Sour Mix/Sour Mix?
Many cocktails, including the pomegranate martini call for adding sweet and sour or sour mix into your drink. It’s easy to make and you can use it in lots of different cocktails once you have it made up.
All you have to do is: Mix 1 part simple syrup with 1 part lemon juice. Optionally, add 2 egg whites for every liter of mix to make cocktails slightly foamy (I NEVER do this!!)
If you don’t know how to make simple syrup, you can find the recipe in here.
Once you’ve started with this martini, you might want to try some others, making cocktails can be addictive and great fun to entertain your guests with at home!
If you like the taste that pomegranate gives you, there are plenty of other drinks that you can make with it. Traditionally the addition of pomegranate flavor was created by adding grenadine (French for ‘pomegranate’). These days, you can buy pomegranate liquer, flavored vodka and juices to experiment with.
Pomegranate has a reputation for being a ‘healthy fruit’ too, so that gives you a great excuse to stay ‘healthy’ and try a few different pomegranate cocktails!
