Where shall I look for ‘Famous’ Dirty Martini Recipes, there are certainly a lot of choices out there and to be honest, one famous Dirty Martini Recipe sounds incredibly similar to another one! It involves making your classic Martini and then adding either olive juice or olive brine to make your drink ‘dirty’.
The look of your classic Martini then changes from being clear to becoming mirky and cloudy, hence the description of it being ‘dirty’. The taste becomes more salty, so it’s up to you how salty you want to make your adult beverage.
Famous Dirty Martini Recipes
#1 From Esquire.com
Esquire is a good place to start for any discerning gentleman – and let’s face it, that’s exactly what we all are, right Guys!
- Combine the gin, vermouth, and olive juice in a cocktail shaker and stir. (Yes, stirred, not shaken. Sorry 007.)
- Strain into a chilled martini glass.
- Garnish with as many olives as you’d like on a toothpick.
As you can see, Esquire go for the olive juice option in their dirty martini recipe and they go for the stirred not shaken method to create their drink.
#2 From Martha Stewart
I find it amusing to add this recipe, as our very own Martha Stewart has served time for ‘dirty’ dealings on the stock market, so who better than to know how to make the perfect dirty martini recipe! Here’s her take on the recipe:
Ingredients for One:
Directions:
1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add vodka, olive brine, and vermouth; shake. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with olives.
#3 From Allen Katz (Director of Mixology & Spirits Education NY)
The only comment I’d make for this ‘How To’ is that I’d always put my olives on a skewer/cocktail stick.
Picture the scene, you are on your first date, with a gorgeous babe, sipping your dirty martini …. and then you start fishing around in your drink for your olives?! No thanks, I’d rather take out my cocktail stick from my drink and delicately pop each olive into my mouth … much more classy and potentially more seductive too!

Over to you Guys, the only decent thing to do, in the name of scientific experiment, is to try dirty martini both ways and decide whether you prefer olive juice or brine. Oh and also experiment with shaken or stirred! It looks like it’s going to be an interesting night in the name of science!
