what is sex on the beachYeah, I hear ya, why would I write an article on What Is Sex on the Beach?  You know right, it’s not rocket science is it? Boy meets girl, heads to the beach and if things go well, that’s all there is to it!

I’m not talking about that sort of sex on the beach, but about the Sex on the Beach Cocktail!  I can’t believe you didn’t realise that!!!  (Although you could check out our article on the five best adult dating sites if you’re too disappointed!)

What is Sex on the Beach?

There are a variety of recipes for the sex on the beach cocktail.  As the cocktail is made by different bartenders they tend to add their own twist but keep the provocative name.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 3/4 ounce peach schnapps
  • 1/2 ounce creme de cassis (or Chambord)
  • 2 ounces orange juice (or pineapple juice)
  • 2 ounces cranberry juice
  • Orange slice and maraschino cherry for garnish

How to Make It:

  1. Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into a highball glass.
  4. Garnish with the orange slice and maraschino cherry.

Here’s a classic version and an alternative too which includes Midori (a melon-based liquer) and pineapple juice instead of orange.

What is apparently totally certain is that sex on the beach MUST contain cranberry juice!

Sex on the beach seems to have come into being around 1987 in Florida, when peach schnapps was introduced into the US.

What’s the difference between Sex on the Beach and Woo Woo?

A Woo Woo is simply a sex on the beach without orange juice.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 1 ounce  peach schnapps
  • 2 ounces cranberry juice
  • Garnish: lime wedge

How to Make It

  1. Place the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or into a highball filled with fresh ice.
  4. Garnish with a lime wedge.

This vodka cocktail is less sweet than the sex on the beach, which many people prefer.

The Woo Woo can make a great party punch or a shooter if you halve the quantity of cranberry juice.
