It’s Saturday night, you’re home alone with a bowl of popcorn and a beer in hand. You peruse your DVD collection or scroll through your Netflix/Amazon Prime videos, and run into that age-old problem… what should you watch? Hours turn into days, and days turn into months and before you know it your whole life has passed you by and you still haven’t picked a damn movie! Situations like this are the reason why you always have a “go-to” list of movies. Here at TMB we’ve done the research for you and have comprised a list to tell you what the best movies for guys are.

So you’ve got a couple of genre’s that will always keep you satisfied and keep your manliness intact. the main ones being action, war, mafia/gangster, sci-fi, Martial Arts, and last but not least Westerns.

Action:

Die Hard(1988): This film will have you yelling “Yippee-kai-yay, motherfucker!” all day long. All the action-packed scenes are just the cherry on top of the kick-ass all-American sense of humor Bruce Willis so perfectly embodies. It’s okay if Christmas comes early if it means watching this movie.

War:

Saving Private Ryan (1998):  Saving Private Ryan, although a little heavy, will give you that strong sense of camaraderie if you can stick out through the end. It’s very graphic with some serious acting and is just enough to keep your eyes glued to the screen even if you do get a little misty-eyed at the end.

Platoon(1986): is a good movie to watch if you want to watch Charlie Sheen get the bright-eyed bushy-tailed idealism beaten out of him. This movie takes you from the college classroom to being knee deep in the battlefield of the Viet Cong. It’s a very unapologetic look at the Vietnam War and the politics of the soldiers that were involved.

Mafia/Gangster:

The Godfather (1972): It’s safe to say the Godfather is one of the greatest movies of all time. It’s also possibly one of the most quoted too. You’ll find yourself getting pulled into it, and before you know it you’re tangled in the inner workings of the Mafia. Don Vito Corleone and the Italian-American crime family make this a movie you can’t refuse (Sorry we couldn’t resist)

Sci-fi:

The Matrix (1999): Regardless of which color pill you take, this movie will undoubtedly blow your mind… no, really it’ll have you pondering the intricacies of time and cyberspace, and watching over your shoulders for men in black suits an sunglasses. We follow Neo (Keanu Reeves) as he seeks the truth about “The Matrix”, but can he handle it?

Martial Arts:

Enter the Dragon (1973): Bruce Lee is in this move…. that’s all you need to know. But seriously, if you’ll enjoy this awesome Martial Arts masterpiece as Bruce Lee plays a Martial Arts Expert (big shocker there lol) trying to avenge the death of his sister kung-fu style.

Westerns:

Unforgiven (1992): Who doesn’t love a good Western movie? In Unforgiven you’ve got Cowboys, the angry Sheriff, gun fights, a bounty, and Clint Eastwood. What more do you need??? With a movie set in a town called “Big Whiskey,” I’m sure you can put the pieces together on where your night is headed. Where’s a ten-gallon hat when you need one?

This list is definitely not final at all, we actually found a pretty good one by Men’s Journal that had several picks in commons with the ones listed here. Check it out, and let us know some of you must watch “films for guys”.
